Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – Pop star Ariana Grande has had the most busy life in recent years what with surviving the bombing incident at her Manchester concert, meeting and then eventually engaged to ‘Saturday Night Live’ comedian Pete Davidson, breaking up, and then getting back together again, and then breaking up for real with the calling off of their engagement, releasing her critically acclaimed album ‘Sweetener’ produced by Pharrell Williams and then releasing ‘thank u, next’ the hit that earned Grande a Billboard number one and inspiring a brand new album by its namesake.
During an interview on The Zach Shang Show, the pint sized songstress reveals that the single ‘thank u, next’ had different versions before the world could finally heart it— all thanks to her tumultuous relationship with Davidson.
The ‘God is A Woman’ singer says that her engagement with the comedian was a constant up and down rollercoaster affecting ‘thank u, next’s’ lyrics— there’s a version where she does not name drop Davidson, Big Sean, Ricky Alvarez and the late Mac Miller; there’s another one where she didn’t talk about getting married and then another one where they were— all depending if they got back together or not.
She decided to stick to the original version and released the song when they finally broke up.
‘thank u, next’ became a leading single to Grande’s just released album of the same name featuring hits such as ‘Imagine’, ‘7 Rings’ and ‘Break Up with Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored’.
Davidson jokes about the relationship now during his stand-up acts and has moved on to Brit actress Kate Beckinsale.
