CinemaCon 2019 Roundup: The Biggest, Most Exciting Movie Reveals

Las Vegas, NV, United States (4E) – CinemaCon, one of the largest movie conventions where movie studios get to highlight their upcoming projects, is currently underway in Las Vegas and it has already seen the unveiling of some of the most exciting and highly-anticipated films this year. Here’s a list of some of the buzziest attractions at CinemaCon so far.
New ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Clip
Expectations are running high for the fourth ‘Avengers’ film, which is set to hit theaters this April. At Disney’s CinemaCon presentation, the studio revealed a new ‘Avengers’ clip, this time showing Captain Marvel joining the superhero squad.
The release of the new clip comes shortly after confirmation that the Brie Larson-starrer has crossed the $1 billion threshold at the worldwide box office. In the new footage, Carol Danvers interacting with the members of the Avengers and telling them she’s going to go and kill Thanos. The members stop her, with Don Cheadle’s James Rhodes telling her that they “usually work as a team.” Steve Rogers, played by Chris Evans’, adds “Up there is more your territory, but this is our fight too.”
‘Cats’ is undoubtedly one of the most recognizable Broadway productions in history and it has been made into a major motion picture.
Atlhough Universal Picture did not release any footage of ‘Cats’, the audience was treated to a behind-the-scenes look of the film.
Taylor Swift, Idris Elba, Judi Dench, and Ian McKellen are among the confirmed cast members of the film. As to how these stars will look as cats, director Tom Hooper said they used “digital fur technology” to make the magic come to life, Mashable reported.
‘Lion King’ New Footage
Disney wowed everyone as the presented a new clip from the upcoming live-action remake of ‘Lion King’.
The five-minute clip shows Simba and his father Mufasa looking at the vast expanse of their kingdom in the Pride Lands. “Look, Simba, everything the light touches is our kingdom,” Mufasa, voiced by James Earl Jones, tells the young Simba, voiced by JD McCrary. These lines were also used in the original 1994 animated classic.
‘Toy Story’ Footage
Disney offered more than what was expected at CinemaCon. Wrapping up their presentation was the first 17-minutes look of the upcoming ‘Toy Story 4’.
In the clip, Woody and the crew are adjusting to life under their new owner. In recall, Andy already passed his toys to Bonnie before leaving for college. In the fourth installment, Bonnie is having a hard time being separated from her toys as she prepares for her kindergarten orientation. She treats Woody and the rest as her close confidantes, but she is having trouble making new friends in school.
DC was not to be left behind with its first trailer for the ‘Joker’ movie, with Joaquin Phoenix taking on the titular madman. The trailer alone is already receiving a lot of praise, with the Washington Post commenting that it feels less like a comicbook movie and more like a Martin Scorsese creation.
