Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – Danai Gurira, who stars as Michonne in AMC’s ‘The Walking Dead’, is leaving the series in season 10.

Sources told The Hollywood Reporter that she has signed a contract indicating that season 10 will be her final return to the show. Gurira was one of the breakout stars of ‘The Walking Dead’, appearing as the katana-wielding Michonne. She joined the series back in season 3.

Her contract further indicates that she will not be as frequently seen in season 10 since she will return “in a limited capacity” and will only be in a couple of episodes spread out throughout the tenth season. She is the third major cast member to exit the zombie apocalypse drama, following Andrew Lincoln who played leading man Rick Grimes and Lauren Cohan who starred as Maggie Rhee. The latter, however, may be getting her own spinoff show.

During a press tour to promote her new show “Whiskey Cavalier”, Cohan told the audience that she’s in talks with AMC to do a ‘Walking Dead’ spinoff focusing on her character, Maggie.

“There may have been some conversations but everything is so early days ambiguous. We’ll have to see what happens,” she said, Deadline quotes. Lohan joined the series in season 2.

The ‘Black Panther’ actress, however, is likely to reprise her role as Michonne in ‘The Walking Dead’ movies AMC is planning. The movie marks the return of Lincoln as Grimes, and will be written by Scott M. Gimple. Production is expected to begin this year.

Gurira and AMC has yet to comment on her departure from the show.
