Democratic presidential hopeful Elizabeth Warren nabbed the Des Moines Register newspaper endorsement Saturday, with the editorial board opining her ideas are needed now âwhen the very fabric of American life is at stake.â
âShe is a thinker, a policy wonk and a hard worker,â the paper wrote. âShe remembers her own familyâs struggles to make ends meet and her own desperation as a working mother needing child care. She cares about people, and she will use her seemingly endless energy and passion to fight for them.â
The endorsement ran online Saturday, coming just days before Iowan Democrats caucus on Feb, 3 and try to decide from a still-crowded field.
The newspaper’s executives said they believe Senator Warren is not just the best candidate but would be the president the nation needs right now.
Register executive editor Carol Hunter told USA TODAY, âThe board starts with a very basic question: Who would be the best president? But also asks who would be the best president for these times? Thatâs one of the main factors that led us to Elizabeth Warren.
âWe feel that income inequality and the tilting of the playing field so much toward the wealthy and away from the middle class has put the American dream at risk.â
