Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – Disney has rolled out the first official trailer for its live action remake of the classic hit ‘Mulan’, which stars Chinese-American actress Liu Yifei.
Liu is set to play the legendary heroine whose life was first brought to the big screen in the 1998 animated film from Disney. The trailer follows the main premise of the original, starting with Mulan being groomed for marriage and later on fighting for the country to bring honor for his family. Unlike the 1998 original, however, the live action ‘Mulan’ will not be a musical.
Some aspects of the cartoon also won’t make it in the live action adaptation. For one, the story will not feature Li Shang, Mulan’s love interest in the 1998 film. 2020 ‘Mulan’, however, will have a new character named Chen Honghui, who is described as a member of Commander Tung’s unit and a close friend of Mulan. He will be portrayed by New Zealand-based actor Yoson An, The Hollywood Reporter wrote.
The film will also star Donnie Yen as Commander Tung. Jason Scott Lee will play the main villain, Hun leader Böri Khan. Jet Li will portray the emperor of China.
‘Mulan’ is directed by Niki Caro and the screenplay is written by Elizabeth Martin, Lauren Hynek, Rick Jaffa, and Amanda Silver.
‘Mulan’ will hit theaters on March 27, 2020.
