Washington, WA, United States (4E) – President Donald Trump addressed the recent attack on ‘Empire’ star Jussie Smollett this week, calling the act “horrible.”

During Thursday’s press conference at the White House, Washington bureau chief for American Urban Radio Networks April asked about the incident, wherein Smollett was beaten up by two unidentified persons who yelled “MAGA country” thereafter. MAGA, which stands for Make America Great Again, was the slogan used by Trump during his presidential campaign. This statement was corroborated by Smollett’s music manager, with whom he was talking on the phone while the incident transpired.

“That, I can tell you, is horrible,” Trump told reporters, Variety quotes. “I’ve seen it, last night. I think that’s horrible. It doesn’t get worse as far as I’m concerned.”

According to the Chicago Police Department, the two men also hurled “racial and homophobic” slurs at Smollett, doused him in an “unknown chemical substance” and tied a rope around his neck.

Smollett has yet to open up about the assault, but his publicist told the AP that he is “home and recovering.” Sources close to the situation also said that the actor, who plays a gay musician in ‘Empire’, has refused the additional security offered to him by Fox Studios. Security for the ‘Empire’ cast was also increased last week after the studio received a threatening, homophobic letter for Smollett, TMZ reports.

ABC News reported on Thursday that police has obtained footage of the assault and are now identifying two possible “persons of interest.” They released photos of the “persons of interest” on Wednesday.
