London, England, United Kingdom (4E) – Facebook and Instagram have banned several controversial figures from its sites.

Alex Jones, host of right-wing conspiracy website InfoWars, its UK editor Paul Joseph Watson and ex-Breitbart News editor Milo Yiannopoulos are among the excluded, joining the likes of Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan.

Paul Nehlen, a white supremacist, and Laura Loomer, an anti-Islamic activist also made the list.

Loomer has previously made news when she handcuffed herself to a Twitter building in New York after being banned from that platform.

Facebook, which also owns Instragram, said it’s even-handed when it comes to dropping people from using their social mediums.

“We’ve always banned individuals or organisations that promote or engage in violence and hate, regardless of ideology,” the company said in a statement.

“The process for evaluating potential violators is extensive and it is what led us to our decision to remove these accounts today.”
