Former ‘American Idol’ Contestant Indicted For Being A Drug Courier

Norfolk, VA, United States (4E) – Former ‘American Idol’ contestant Antonella Barba has been indicted for being involved in a drug ring as a drug courier, court documents revealed.

Barba, who also appeared on ‘Fear Factor’ was trying to deliver almost 2 pounds of fentanyl when she was apprehended by authorities in October last year in Norfolk, Virginia. According to the Virginian Pilot, Barba was taken into custody on Monday and to face her indictment for conspiracy to distribute cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl.

However, this is not Barba’s first run in with the law. She was previously charged with shoplifting in New York and has a pending case in Kansas involving marijuana charges.

Barba, who comes from New Jersey, participated in ‘American Idol’ in 2007, the year Jordin Sparks was announced as the winner. She was a top 16 finalist and even made headlines after racy photographs of her surfaced online. She even became the topic of debate on ‘The View’, during which the show’s host discussed whether she should be booted out of the show. In her defense, Barba said at the time that the photos were her own “personal private properly” that “got into the hands of the wrong people” and therefore should not be used against her, Yahoo News reported.

After her ‘Idol’ stint, Barba went on to other television appearances. She was among the former ‘Idol’ contestants who appeared in an episode of ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ together with other former competitors. In 2012, she competed in ‘Fear Factor’. She also starred in a couple of short films and the action-comedy film ‘All About the Money’ with Eddie Griffin and Casper Van Dien.
