Manhattan, NY, United States (4E) – Infamous Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein is apparently in the market for a “dream team” of defense lawyers, The New York Times reported.
The Weinstein Company film producer split with his lawyer Benjamin Brafman, a criminal defense attorney and founder of Manhattan-based firm Brafman & Associates, P.C. who is known for representing high profile personalities such as singer Sean “Diddy” Combs, NFL athlete Plaxico Buress and ‘pharma bro’ Martin Shkreli to name a few.
Brafman withdrew from Weinstein’s legal team when he wrote a 7,500 word piece for the magazine, Esquire. In the piece he revealed that he could take Weintein’s abuse of his legal team better than most— Weinstein would send him dozens of emails everyday, shows up in his office unannounced and leaves dozens of voicemails when he doesn’t hear back from him. Brafman calls him a genius in the movie industry but grew tired of his relentlessness in his case.
Weinstein has been under the radar since 2017 when The New York Times and The New Yorker published articles of him allegedly sexually harassing, assaulting and raping women through abusing his privileges as one of Hollywood’s career makers. Weinstein is famous for going all out on campaigns for his leading actors in films he produced. He championed actors like Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Lawrence and more to win Academy Awards.
When the media was afrenzy of the allegations, various women came out with stories of Weintein’s abuse which led to his divorce with wife Georgina Chapman designer of fashion brand Marchesa.
The New York Times reported that close sources reveal that a woman may join his defense team. Weinstein is scheduled to appear in court on March 7 this year.
