Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – Recently deceased German designer Karl Lagerfeld who has worked in the fashion industry for most of his life in brands such as Chanel, Fendi, Chloe and his own namesake brand may have left us with an iconic legacy, turned over his Creative Director role at Chanel to Virginie Viard, but where does his estate go?
Lagerfeld has died without issue leaving his fortune only to one logical heir— his pet cat Choupette. But the feline friend certainly would not have to go through all the paperwork that comes with being named in a will.
According to French newspaper ‘Le Figaro’, a cat as legal heir could be feasible under German law if the cat was nominated as an heir in the will.
Lagereld’s $170 million fortune will have some significant portion to Choupette “and then some” according to reports. The seven year old cat will not have a change of lifestyle as she was accustomed to a personal bodyguard, a chef and two maids. In 2015 she reportedly acquired her own fortune taking up to 3 million euros without e-commerce. Lagerfeld has also designed a line based on Choupette called ‘Choupette in Love’. The most pampered cat in fashion also has a massive following of 200,000 fans on Twitter and Instagram combined.
The designer acquired Choupette when a friend of his asked his maid to take care of her for two weeks. When the friend came back, Choupette would not return to him so Lagerfeld kept her and made her model for a German car brand and a Japanese beauty product.
If Choupette is lucky, she could become the world’s richest cat.
