Hollywood actor Kevin Costner endorsed Indiana mayor Pete Buttigieg for president Sunday at a rally at Indianola High School.

“I see Pete as a man of his moment,” the Field of Dreams and Yellowstone star told a crowd of about 1,000 people. “Moral courage speaks with a certain clarity.”

Costner said he respects both the mayor and Iowa’s role in selecting the next president.

“Whether your road leads you to Pete like mine has, that’s for you to judge. When Pete speaks of unity, it’s the kind of unity I’ve been waiting and hoping to hear about.”

“What you do with your vote is put those first seeds in the ground and see what grows next year.”

Buttigieg said he appreciated the warm welcome and support of Costner.

“Is this heaven? No, it’s Iowa,” the mayor said in a nod to Costner’s role in the baseball movie.

Buttigieg will remain in the state for the next few days as he looks to build on the excitement some feel for his candidacy as a fresh face among the candidates.

Costner has used his fame previously to support politicians, including former President Barack Obama when he was on the campaign trail.
