New Orleans, LA., United States (4E) – Louisiana authorities have arrested a man in connection to the murder of beloved activist Sadie Roberts-Joseph, who was found dead in the trunk of a car Friday.

Ronn Bell, 38, was arrested and charged Tuesday with first-degree murder of the 75-year-old woman.

Roberts-Joseph’s death was the result of “traumatic asphyxia,” according to preliminary autopsy conducted by the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office.

Her death isn’t being considered a hate-crime, however, according to police.

“There’s no information which leads us to believe this incident was motivated by her activism or her community efforts,” said Baton Rouge police chief Murphy Paul at a press conference held Tuesday.

Bell was said to be a tenant at one of Roberts-Joseph’s properties and was reportedly months behind on rent.

The accused is a registered sex offender, pleading guilty to sexual battery of an eight-year-old child about 12 years ago.
