Manhattan, NY, United States (4E) – The man who killed Morgan Freeman’s granddaughter has been sentenced to 20 years in prison, but during his sentencing he blamed the award-winning was blamed for her death, saying he sexually abused his granddaughter when she was younger.
Lamar Davenport, 33, was sentenced to 20 years in prison plus an addition five years of post-release supervision. The defendant’s mother told reporters outside a courtroom in New York that Freeman molested his own granddaughter, 33-year-old E’Dena Hines, and caused her death. “He did this,” Davenport’s mother screamed at reporters and claiming that her son is innocent, Page Six reported.
During the course of the trial, there were allegations that the “Shawshank Redemption” actor was involved in a romantic relationship with Hines and that she, at one point, texted Davenport that she had “grandpa feelings”. Freeman has denied the allegations.
Hines is Freeman’s granddaughter from his first wife, Jeanette Adair Bradshaw.
According to the Daily Mail, Davenport had been convicted of manslaughter in the first degree in May 2018 for killing Hines, who was his girlfriend at the time. The accused stabbed her 25 times on the street as witness watch in horror.
Davenport was initially charged with murder in the second degree, but the defense argued that he was in a drug-induced psychosis during the killing and was therefore not in full control of his mental and physical faculties, thus mitigating the offense.
One onlooker who saw the attacked testified that Davenport screamed “I love you, I always loved you. God would have wanted this” as he stabbed Hines.
Davenport, a rapper, and Hines had been living together in a &78,000 apartment paid by Freeman. Davenport is said to have struggled with drug addiction and fathered several children with other women when he was still with Hines.
