Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – ‘This Is Us’ actress Mandy Moore opened up about her relationship with former husband, singer Ryan Adams, in an interview with the New York Times. Moore, together with several other women, came forward with their experience of abuse with the musician.

In the interview Moore revealed that Adams was “controlling” in their relationship, as well as his relationships with other women. Adams discouraged her from working with other managers and producers and eventually became the one deciding her entire career path.

Adams also promised Moore that they would record together, but it never materialized. He, however, went on to record music with other female artists. Moore also claimed that Adams told her that she wasn’t a real artist because she didn’t play an instrument.

Other women also came forward with stories of abuse from Adams. A fan named Ava claimed that she began exchanging messages with Adams in 2013, when she was only a 14-year-old bass player. However, their conversations about music quickly turned into “graphic texting.” According to Ava, they had video calls over Skype and Adams even exposed himself during phone sex.

The New York Times reviewed their communication, which include 3,217 text messages that were exchanged over the course of a nine-month period. In the texts, Adams constantly asked Ava about her age, and although she made it appear that she was older than she was, Adams was not convinced.

Adams, through his lawyer, Andrew B. Brettler, denied Ava’s allegations and said that he “never engaged in inappropriate online sexual communications with someone he knew was underage.”

In a tweet, Adams reiterated his statement, saying he would never “inappropriate interactions with someone I thought was underage.” He also apologized to anyone that he hurt unintentionally.
