Chicago, IL, United States (4E) – Police are continuing the investigation on the possible hate crime attack against ‘Empire’ actor Jussie Smollett. Authorities in Chicago said they are looking for two persons of interests, which police considered after looking at hours of surveillance tapes.

12 detectives are now trying to identify the individuals that were caught on camera and are going to question them.

In a previous interview, Smollett told police that two white men were shouting racial slurs and anti-gay sentiments at him as they but him up. They also poured him with an unknown chemical and tied a rope around his neck. Smollett still had the rope around his neck when police arrived 45 minutes after receiving an alert on the attack.

Smollett also told the police that the attackers yelled “this is MAGA country,” in reference to President Donald Trump’s campaign slogan.

The incident took place on Monday in New York while Smollett went to Subway at 2 in the morning. His attackers were said to have been wearing ski masks so the actor wasn’t able to see their faces.

The actor, who plays a gay artist on ‘Empire’, refused an offer from Fox to give him additional security after the incident. Sources close to the situation told TMZ that security for the entire cast of ‘Empire’ was heightened following the attack on Smollett and after Fox Studios in Chicago received a homophobic and threatening letter addressed to the actor.

According to the outlet, Smollett refused having extra bodyguards when he wasn’t working because it would interfere with his personal life.
