Chicago, IL, United States (4E) – R. Kelly, who is being charged with 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse, is asking the court to allow him to travel to Dubai to do several concerts and possibly meet with the Royal Family.

During the March 22 hearing, however, the singer’s legal team asked the judge to delay ruling on the said request so that they can amend it with more concrete information as to his activities there.

Kelly’s attorney, Steve Greenberg, told reports that they want to provide Judge Lawrence Flood more detailed information regarding the request, including contracts for the event and the people involved. The next setting for Kelly’s trial is on May 7, but his team is hoping they’d get everything ready before April 15 and get approval just in time for Kelly to do shows in Dubai starting April, The Chicago Times reported.

In the initial court filing, it was stated that Kelly has been struggling financially ever since the scandal escalated in the past few months and his gig in Dubai is a job opportunity that would allow him to make ends. The filing noted that the embattled singer is having financial woes and needs to raise money to pay for child support and other child-related expenses. His lawyers contend that denying him the opportunity to work would be pose hardship on his children, The Chicago Tribue reported.

As a condition of his $1 million bond, Kelly is precluded from leaving the state of Illinois. He was also asked to surrender his passport. However, Greenberg said Kelly does not pose any flight risk as he has never failed to appear in court and has been very cooperative with the proceedings.

Moreover, Kelly signed the contract to do around 3-5 shows in Dubai before he was arrested for sexual assault. He is expected to travel to Dubai using a private jet.
