Chicago, IL, United States (4E) – R. Kelly remains in police custody after failing to pay the $100,000 bail bond required for his release after he awaits trial for the aggravated sexual abuse charge against him.

The singer’s defense attorney, Steve Greenberg, told The Guardian that coordination for paying the bond was complicated because Kelly has to “rely on others acting on his behalf.” Greenberg also explained that the 52-year-old singer doesn’t have the financial ability to pay the totality of the bail, which the judge set at $1 million but only required the payment of 10 percent thereof for his release, because the singer was not wealthy despite earning from his songs throughout decades. His lawyer blames his financial problems to mismanagement and bad contracts.

Among the conditions for his bond is that Kelly does not have any contact with minor females.

He is expected to post bail and be released on Monday. Kelly is currently detained at the Cook County Jail.

Meanwhile, Kelly appeared in court on Monday and pleaded not guilty to all ten counts of sexual abuse charged against him. His case was assigned to Judge Lawrence Flood and the next schedule for his hearing is on March 22.

Four victims are involved as private complainants in the criminal case, three of which were underage at the time the offense was committed, CNN reports.

He was charged in a grand jury indictment on Friday. Cook County State’s Attorney Kimberly Foxx said the alleged abuses took place in a span of 12 years. Prosecutors further claimed there is a video that shoe’s Kelly committing the sexual acts complained of. Kelly, however, maintains innocence and his lawyer insists that his accusers are lying.
