Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – Many fans were surprised when actress Selma Blair showed up to the Vanity Fair Oscars Party looking healthy in a blond bob wearing a multicolored gown by Ralph and Russo and carrying a cane covered in patent leather.
It was her first public appearance, one that made her shed a tear on the red carpet, since she announced in October last year of her diagnosis of multiple sclerosis, a chronic and often disabling disease affecting the central nervous system.
On Tuesday, Blair spoke to ABC’s Robin Roberts on a one on one interview for Good Morning America to talk about the disease that left her with a speech disorder and difficulty in walking unassisted.
She revealed that prior to her diagnosis she was already experiencing intense pain and fatigue ever since giving birth to her son in 2011. She recalls a time when she would drop her son at school and park somewhere just to get a nap before going home.
On the red carpet, she also spoke to Vanity Fair saying that she’s been dealing with a host of strange ailments for nearly five years, before undergoing an MRI last summer and discovering the autoimmune disease.
Blair even called up actor Michael J. Fox to ask about his symptoms since he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease since 1991, out of fear that she might be suffering for the same thing.
She revealed that she thought she was a “nobody in Hollywood” but after the support given to her by fans after announcing her disease, she figured that her disease and others as well should be talked about publicly by someone recognizable.
Despite her disability, Blair has no plans to stop acting.
