Serena Williams Defends Meghan Markle From Negative Press Over Her Wimbledon Appearance

London, United Kingdom (4E) – Serena William came to Meghan Markle’s defense after the latter caused a stir for her appearance during Wimbledon last week.

Markle attended The Championship match last Thursday to cheer for her best friend Williams, who was going head to head against Kaja Juvan. However, the Duchess of Sussex drew criticism after rumors swirled that she allegedly asked her security staff to tell spectators not to take pictures of her as she was attending the match “in a private capacity.” Some even pointed out that the row behind Markle’s seat was completely empty.

Williams, however, was happy to have Markle during the matches and said she was unaware of the negative media surrounding the royal’s visit.

“Any time I see her name attached to anything, I don’t read it,” Williams told E! News. “She couldn’t be a better friend to me. Low moments, high moments—she’s always there. That’s all I want to be to her.”

Markle’s Wimbledon appearance was her first solo public outing since giving birth to her son, Archie Harrison.

Markle and Williams are long-time friends. The tennis superstar and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, were among the guests at Meghan and Prince Harry’s wedding.

Markle will return to Wimbledon for the final match on Saturday. This time she will be accompanied by her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, who is also the Patron of All England Lawn Tennis, The Sun reported.

Earlier this week Middleton and Markle cheered on their husbands at the King Power Royal Charity Polo Day. Also in attendance were their children, including eight-week-old Archie.
