Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – ‘Stranger Things’ actor David Harbour is teaming up with Scarlett Johansson for the upcoming ‘Black Widow’ standalone movie.
Harbour will be joining rising star Florence Pugh and the rest of the cast in London as filming begins in June, The Hollywood Reporter wrote.
Australian filmmaker Cate Shortland is directing the movie.
As with every Marvel project, details about ‘Black Widow’ remain scarce. All that has been revealed as of now is that it will center on Natasha Romanoff’s story, from her early training under the KGB to becoming part of S.H.I.E.L.D. and The Avengers. It will be a prequel and will reveal the character’s origin and backstory.
Johansson is said to be taking home $15 million for the project.
No information about Harbour’s and Pugh’s role has been disclosed as of this writing.
The ‘Black Widown’ standalone movie was confirmed last year when Marvel announced that it has tapped Jac Schaeffer to helm the script, Variety reported.
Contrary to rumors, the super spy film is not being considered for an R rating. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige told Comicbook.com that they never considered the Scarlett Johansson-starrer for a rating above PG-13. Although the source for the rumors is unknown, the idea appears to stem from a previous suggestion that the studio was considering doing R-rated superhero movies.
Johansson will reprise her role as Black Widow in the upcoming ‘Avengers: Endgame’ and Harbour will play the titular superhero in the ‘Hellboy’ remake.
