Chicago, IL, United States (4E) – Terrence Howard has opened up about the arrest of his ‘Empire’ co-star Jussie Smollett who is being accused of staging a hate crime against him last month in Chicago.

Smollett plays Jamal, son of Howard’s character, Lucious Lyon, on the hit Fox drama. In a video posted on Instagram, Howard showed a footage of Smollett playing with a baby. The pair break into giggles as Smollett tickles the baby.

“All your lil homies got you. We love the hell outta you,” Howard captioned the video.

One fan criticized Howard for showing support for onscreen son, to which the actor responded with a lengthy comment. He wrote, “The Jussie I know could never even conceive of something so unconscious and ugly. His innocence or judgment is not for any of us to decide.”

He added that for five years he has considered Smollett his son and that he wants to show him love and compassion at this crucial time.

“It’s God’s job to judge and it’s ours to love and hope, especially for those that we claim to have loved,” Howard wrote.

However, sources on the ‘Empire’ set told TMZ that Howard had a meltdown shortly after they found out that Smollett had turned himself in to the Chicago Police after he was charged for filing a false police report.

According to the source, Howard previously grilled Smollett about his story and noticed that some parts of it did not add up. When Smollett surrendered on Thursday, Howard was allegedly so upset that he refused to leave his trailer.

Executive producers of ‘Empire’ have announced that they are removing Smollett’s character from the remaining episodes of season 5.
