London, United Kingdom (4E) – As Oscar season is coming to a close, the 72nd British Academy Film Awards certainly has its favorites and it goes by the aptly titled film, ‘The Favourite’.

The Yorgos Lanthimos directed film took home seven awards; Best Leading Actress for Olivia Colman, Best Costume Design, Best Original Screenplay, Best Supporting Actress for Rachel Weisz, Best Makeup And Hair, Best Production Design, and Outstanding British Film.

The Duchess of Cambridge, Catherine Middleton herself congratulated Colman on her win portraying the late Queen Anne as they were seen chatted inside the Royal Albert Hall. Colman thanked her co-actresses Weisz and Emma Stone and said that she and her director Lanthimos will get drunk for the night to celebrate seven wins out of twelve nominations.

Although the film swiped most of the awards, it failed to gain traction for the Best Film of last year as Alfonso Cuaron’s childhood homage to his former nanny ‘Roma’ won. Cuarón also received the add for Best Director. Yet another snub for Bradley Cooper who made his directorial debut with ‘Star Is Born’ with Lady Gaga, who won two Grammy awards for her song in the film, ‘Shallow’.

As predicted, Rami Malek took home Best Actor for ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’and Mahershala Ali for Best Supporting Actor for ‘Green Book’.

2018’s breakout movie ‘Black Panther’ didn’t go home without any accolades as its actress Letitia Wright won the Rising Star award and Special Visual Effects. The Marvel movie is nominated for Best Picture in the upcoming Academy Awards.

Also present was pop-country star Taylor Swift who skipped the Grammy awards to support her boyfriend Joe Alwyn who appears in ‘The Favourite’.
